Computer Science Alumna Deborah Frincke Receives Presidential Appointment

Computer science alumna Deborah Frincke B.S. '85, M.S. '89, Ph.D. ‘92, has been appointed to the National Quantum Initiative Advisory Committee. Frincke, the associate laboratories director of national security programs at Sandia National Laboratories, received the appointment from President Joe Biden in December.

Since her time as a computer science student at UC Davis, Deb Frincke, B.S. ’85, M.S. ’89, Ph.D. ’92 has been at the forefront of cybersecurity as it has become an increasingly important part of modern life. With experience in academia, national laboratories and government—most recently as the Director of Research for the National Security Agency (NSA)—she has made a profound impact on the field through her leadership, mentorship and research.

DECAL Group Paper Receives ESEC/FEC 2019 Test-of-Time Award

A 2009 paper led by alumnus Christian Bird ’10 and professors Premkumar Devanbu and Vladimir Filkov received a test-of-time award for its long-lasting impact on the field of software engineering from the Association for Computing Machinery’s 27th Joint European Software Engineering Conference and Symposium on the Foundations of Software Engineering (ESEC/FEC 2019).
